Tinga Reserve Pinot Noir: Another Solid Wine from Chile and La Playa

We’ve had a couple of wines from La Playa to review lately.? The first was the Axel Syrah, which we loved, and you can read about that by clicking here.? This wine is the Pinot Noir from La Playa’s Tinga Reserve line, made with grapes from their sustainably farmed vineyards in the Limari Valley.? These are young vines, only six years old and probably delivering just their second or third vintage.? Production is only 1500 cases.? Here it is:

    IMG_2188Wine: ??? 2013 Tinga Reserve Pinot Noir

    Winery Location:?? Limari Valley, Chile

    Tasted By:? ? Neil & Cheri ?????? Date: May 2014 ???

Tasting Notes:?? the wine runs toward a lighter red, and more garnet in color.? On the nose there are red fruits and a little touch of earth.? Bright acid balances it nicely, and it finishes smooth and long.? It does see French and American oak for about 4 months after 10 months in stainless.? Here we have a Pinot that touches all of the buttons and we would describe as very pleasing.? I very much enjoyed it,? and it makes for a good everyday Pinot Noir.? While it won’t make you forget your favorite red Burgundy or California Pinot, it also will set you back quite a bit less.? This is good wine, a touch below the Axel Syrah, but still very good at its price point.

    Price Point – ?? around $12-$14

Would We Buy It? ?? yes.? This is a solid bottle of Pinot Noir for under $15.? It’s a good value at this price.

So Chile, and La Playa, deliver another solid value.? We have to spend more time with Chilean wine, and are thinking about an extended series in the near future.? We’re also adding it to our list of vineyard and wine areas we need to go visit sometime.? Just about everything we’ve had recently has been impressive.

    A votre santé!
