If You’re Looking for a Different White Wine…

Here’s a white that is a little off the beaten path, and brings aromas and flavors that are just a little different than you’re probably used to.? It’s from Spain, Rueda to be exact, and Rueda is known for Verdejo.? Considering most of the surrounding areas in Spain are known for big reds (and Rueda is right next to Toro) it is somewhat different right there.? This is not a light, watery white, but brings a lot to the party.? Here are the notes:

entreflores verdejoWine:?? 2011 Entreflores Verdejo ?????????????????????????????????????????

    Winery Location:? Rueda, Spain

Tasted By:?? Neil & Cheri ????????????????????????????Date:?? June 2014

Tasting Notes: ??? – the wine is tending toward golden, with some green undertones.? There’s a richness to the color that makes you think you’re in for something with structure and depth, and is delivers both of those.? On the nose there is lots of tropical fruit, as well as apricot and apple.? It’s medium bodied with a good mouthfeel.? This has structure.? The palate brings some green vegetable notes, but those are swamped by lots of bright fruit.? You catch a bit of something that makes you think of a mature Riesling as well.? The finish is long and clean.? This is different, and really quite good.? Drink it with food (I’m thinking Chicken Piccata) or by itself.

Price Point – ? $12 locally, at North Kingston Liquor Mart

Would We Buy It? – we would definitely buy more of this.? When you’re in the mood for a white that’s a little different this is a good choice.? The wine has depth and structure, and really delivers a lot for the price.? Recommended.? We’d also recommend the Albino Rocca Cortese as a nice, structured, delicious white, but you’d have to fly to Italy to get that.? This is easier.

Try a Verdejo, you’ll probably be delightfully surprised.? So many wines, so little time (and money!).

    A votre sante!
