Excellent Reds from Mendoza, and Domaine Bousquet

logoDomaine Bousquet makes wine in the foothills of the Andes, at high altitude with estate grapes from their vineyards in Tupungato, in the Uco Valley of Mendoza.? The vineyards sit at 4000 feet above sea level.? This is the premier wine area of Argentina.

Domaine Bousquet makes many different wines, and you can see them on their website at?https://domainebousquet.com/en/our-wines/.? ?The wines here are from their Gaia line, some of which we have reviewed in the past.? Those were the blends, both red and white, and they were both excellent wines.? Here, we have two of the varietals from the line.? Let’s see what’s in the bottles:

    Winery Location:? ?Mendoza, Argentina

    Tasted By:? ?Neil & Cheri? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ??Date:? October 2020

Tasting Notes:? This wine is a dark ruby in color.? Long legs cascade down after a good swirl.? The nose is black currant and blackberry, with caramel, chocolate and bramble.? There is an herbal note.? On the palate it is full bodied, with a rich mouthfeel and consistent fruit throughout.? The tannins are solid, and the wine is integrated and smooth.? There is enough acid to keep it fresh and it finishes very long.? At 15% alcohol this is a big wine, but it is not brooding or overly done.? Overall this is an excellent Cab Sauv.

    Price Point –? ? $20

Would We Buy It?? ? Absolutely.? This is a really good $20 bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and it goes on our?Value List.

    And now the other:

    Winery Location:? ?Mendoza, Argentina

    Tasted By:? Neil & Cheri? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?Date:? ?October 2020? ?

Tasting Notes:? This is another big wine at 15.5% alcohol.? It is very dark in color, with a nose of black plum, tar, toasted oak, herbs and a little chocolate.? On the palate it is full bodied, with tart cherry, medium tannins and good balance.? The touch of charred oak is pleasant and not overdone.? It finishes very long.? Another excellent red.

    Price Point –? ?$20

Would We Buy It?? ?This is another winner, and we would gladly pay $20 for a bottle.? ?Another Value List wine.

Both of these reds from Domaine Bousquet are well worth bringing home.? While they are big wines, they both maintain freshness due to a nice acid balance.? You don’t really get the impression of a 15%+ alcohol wine.? Both are going on our Value List, and are recommended.

    A votre santé!
